This article is the way to hack your way to making an easy keto-friendly pasta without much effort, meant for those who want a break from the texture of normal keto food, and also for those who used to enjoy pasta before they started the keto diet.
If you have the time and energy, you can either spend time and effort making the various parts from scratch, or simply take the shortcut here.
Here is your shopping list of ingredient’s (each link opens in a new tab)
1 . The Pasta Sauce:
You can also spend an hour and make keto-friendly pasta sauce from scratch, and we’ll have a recipe on that soon, but for the quick way, you can buy Low carb / Paleo pasta sause ($7.5)
2 . The Fettuccine :
You have 3 options:
- The easiest solution is to buy the ready made, and ready to cook Zero carb Miracle noodles /Rice/ Fettuccine (6 bag variety pack $16.18)
- You can make and always cook your own from scratch using psyllium husk flour or flaxseed meal, but
- You can make the noodles out of zucchini using this noodle maker ($23.95)
3 . Your choice of meats, veggies and cheeses:
To keep it strictly ketogenic, stay away from potatoes, artichokes and red-beats, but other than that, you should be fine if you mix a bunch of your favorite leafy greens and a few bell peppers
The dish goes best with Minced meat, or chunks of chicken or pork-belly, or a good chorizo sausage cut up. (avoid the spam based hot dog sausages)
You can go all Cheddar on the cheese or 70% cheddar and 30% cream cheese or mozzarella to top it off while serving. (DO NOT USE CHEESE SLICES)
The cooking instructions are very easy:
Cook the pasta as per the instructions on the package, while it cooks, grate your cheese and keep it ready on the side. Once the noodles are cooked, strain them.
And place them into a dish.
Although meat and veggies are not a requirement for the pasta, you can skip them and go to the next step, but if choose to have them, then…
In a separate pan, cook your choice of meat and veggies with some olive oil or butter, once it’s cooked to your liking, and add 2-3 table spoons of the pasta sauce to pan and mix it up into the meat, letting the flavors of the meat, sauce and veggies mesh together in the pan, for 2 mins and turn the flame off.
3 tablespoons of sauce per serving is usually more than enough if you want to enjoy the various other flavors in the dish, or you’ll overpower the dish with the taste of the sauce.
If it’s too thick for your liking, add a few tablespoons of water to the the sauce pan.
Place the cooked pasta into a bowl, and fold in the sauce as required. Always put less than you think you’ll need, you can always add more later. Taste test it and check for salt, add more if needed.
Ready to serve and garnish with some cilantro, oregano, and cheese.
And For dessert, why don’t you have some easy 15 minute no bake dark chocolate mousse?
