Before I’ll share the easy recipe for homemade, truly keto friendly bacon jam, you’ll find that you can buy a non-keto version on amazon too, however its carb count is 7g per teaspoon, which would hurt you and not help your diet.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 14 pieces of salt cured bacon
- cup of black coffee
- 8 drops liquid stevia ($15)
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 onion
- 1.5 ounce (1 shot glass) or scotch or whiskey
- 1.25 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of erythitol (artificial sweetener)
- 2 Teaspoons of liquid smoke
Here’s how you do it:
Cut the bacon into medium chunks ( 3cm ~ half a finger’s length), fry at medium till crispy (but not burnt).
While it cooks, chop up the onion and add the garlic to it, Brew a cup of black coffee and set it aside.
Once the bacon is cooked, take it out into a different dish.
….and also take out half the bacon fat and store it in another dish for later use in other dishes. (it’s epic for the keto diet!)
With half of the remaining fat still in the pan, gently add in the chopped onions and minced garlic. Let it cook down for a few minutes and start to get light brown.
At this point add all of the liquid ingredients from the list above in their respective quantities into the frying onions and let it cook for a 2 more minutes in together.
Add your cooked bacon back into the pan at this point and let it cook away for 30 to 45 minutes until the liquid in the pan has reduced and thickened.
Turn the flame off, and after 5 minutes of rest time, add the contents of the pan a food processor ($23.22) and blend it all together until it has a consistency of mince.
Add the still warm ingredients into a mason jar ($6.54), make sure the jar is dry and clean before adding the bacon jam mix and you’ve got yourself a jam.
This recipe is from www.ruled.me where it’s explained in more details with pictures.
Make this jam your own and share it with friends and family! Add spices, make it spicy and sweet, Buy some ready-made Indian spice mixes($4) or Chinese spice mixes ($7) and experiment with the flavoring to keep your taste buds tantalized.
How about you cook some keto friendly low carb fried chicken to go with the jam in only 20 mins?
